So Fun

Home Tuition for Maths in Waterlooville

I am a highly experienced and qualified mathematics teacher with a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education). Over the years, I have successfully helped students of all abilities build confidence, deepen their understanding, and achieve their goals in mathematics.

My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and adaptable to individual learning needs. I believe that everyone can succeed in mathematics with the right guidance and support. Whether preparing for exams, catching up, or aiming to excel, I’m here to make maths clearer, more enjoyable, and less daunting.

Tutoring Experience

With over 14 years of experience in secondary education and 6 years in further education, I have an in-depth understanding of the curriculum and the evolving landscape of the UK education system. I currently teach part-time and work with students of all ages and abilities, both in the classroom and through private tutoring.

My teaching portfolio includes a wide range of qualifications over Key Stages 2, 3, and 4 such as:
GCSE Mathematics and Statistics
A-Level Mathematics
Core Maths
BTEC qualifications
Over the years, I have helped many students significantly improve their grades, often exceeding their target levels. I’m proud that my students’ achievements reflect the dedication and effectiveness of my teaching.

In addition to teaching, I have mentored trainee teachers and supported the professional development of colleagues, helping to enhance their teaching and learning strategies. This breadth of experience allows me to adapt my approach to meet each learner’s needs and get the best from them.

Tutoring Approach

My approach begins with understanding each learner’s strengths and identifying key areas that need focus and consolidation. By building on what the student already knows and taking the time to listen and adapt to their learning style, I create a supportive environment that encourages questions, curiosity, and confidence.

I tailor lessons to move at a pace that suits the individual, ensuring they feel comfortable and capable at every step. If a concept isn’t understood the first time, I explore alternative explanations and strategies that align with how the student learns best.
Motivating students is a central part of my teaching. I aim to build self-belief alongside subject knowledge, helping learners to become more independent, resilient, and successful in their mathematical journey.
I offer both 1-to-1 and small group sessions (maximum of 4 students per group) to ensure high-quality, focused learning. Students are carefully placed into groups based on ability and learning goals to maximise their progress and confidence.
The prices displayed on my subject information reflect the 1-to-1 hourly rate. If you are interested in group sessions, do feel free to get in touch for further information on availability and pricing.
My fees vary slightly depending on year group and session length, as follows:
KS2 (up to Year 6): £33 for 1 hour 15 minutes
Year 7: £42 for 1 hour 15 minutes
Years 8–9: £50 for 1 hour 15 minutes
GCSE (Years 10–11/early start): £72 for 1 hour 30 minutes

First Tutors displays an hourly rate, but I teach in longer sessions to ensure effective progress. Full pricing and session details are discussed during the initial enquiry.
