I provide private online tutoring services to students studying the KS3, GCSE, and A-Level English curriculum, inc. adult and casual learners.
2:1 Degree in English
Graduating university with a 2:1 degree in English Literature has given me the expertise to tutor students at earlier stages of study.
Exam Board Knowledge
I have studied all 4 exam boards offered to students in England (inc. AQA, OCR, Edexcel, and WJEC) to give me a more detailed grasp on whats expected of students in the present day.
Experience in schools
Between the years 2017 and 2019 I volunteered as an assistant at a few schools where I guided and assisted young people with their school work. It was a fulfilling experience and a student I worked with was awarded for academic progress. The headteacher informed me that my students had grown in confidence, and that they would await our next meeting with excitement. I was asked to stay on further!
Experience with GCSE & A-Level students
I mentored students aged 16-19 through an online platform known as Brightside. I guided students on their present experiences with education, future prospects and pathways, and university. Similarly, I was informed that by the end of each programme, my students felt very happy and well-guided after working with me. They had all grown in confidence and become clearer about what they wanted to do.
Pastoral Care
I have a surprisingly strong memory of what it was like to study English at school, which enables me to put myself in a students shoes in order to get through to them. Leading with a trauma-informed approach is of utmost importance to me. This means creating a safe space free of fear and punishment. My speciality is in working with students who struggle with confidence.
Due to demand, I provide a service that focuses on improving attainment. I believe that a big part of doing well in any subject is connecting with it on a personal level, and this forms the foundation for how I create a plan for my student.
I use my expertise in English, as well as my knowledge of the curriculum, to observe and discern level and ability in order to create a progress plan that encourages growth. On a personal front, Im an advocate for trauma-informed teaching practices. I take a caring approach and ensure that my students feel seen, heard, and supported.
Im also passionate about illuminating the magic of English! Our subject boasts an invaluable skill set which can be used in any context of ones life going forward. Skills such as observation and analysis, critical thinking, empathy, and insight into the human experience and condition build self-awareness and create powerful individuals, from visionaries to humanitarians and leaders people who steer humanity in the right direction.
Mark McCrindle (of Generation Alpha) suggests that these skills will be in demand as advancements in technology threaten the workplace as we know it. Providing the foundation for this development underpins my passion for English and my demeanour towards tutoring the subject.
It means the world to me when I am able to get through to a student and help them realise their potential. I know how integral it is to a young persons future, to develop meaningful and impactful relationships and experiences during education. I hope to emulate this in every experience going forward.
