Emily

My name is Emily, I am 32 years old and I am a qualified primary school teacher with Key Stage 1 and 2 experience. I have also taught a varied timetable in KS3 and supported pupils transitioning to a new school. After this, I worked in KS3 in an MLD special needs school. Before teaching, I studied at the University of Warwick. After this, I worked in a school as an ABA tutor with pupils with autism.

I am enthusiastic, energetic and passionate about seeing children reach their absolute full potential. Lessons are completely tailored to pupils individual gaps and needs. I aim to make sessions fun, engaging and creative.

I can tutor face to face in my local area but most of my pupils I tutor are online.

Tutoring Experience

I am a qualified primary school teacher who has been teaching for 10 years. In my previous experience, I have tutored children in KS2 (mostly in year 5 and 6) but I am happy to tutor children in KS1 or KS2. I will be teaching part time in a year 1 class and have good knowledge of the read write inc phonics scheme.

I am now looking for more children to help pass their SATs, or address learning gaps leading up to year 6 so they can fulfil their full potential and leave primary school with a good foundation of knowledge. Additionally, I tutor year 4 and 5 pupils to prepare them for the 11 plus exams. I also teach phonics interventions and early maths skills for KS1 learners.

Tutoring Approach

My first sessions always focus on building a rapport with pupils and building their confidence. We would spend a little bit of time getting to know each other and discussing their perceived strengths and weaknesses in some detail. Following this, I would conduct assessments to identify gaps, usually I identify each target as a red, amber or green area. This would help me structure and plan subsequent sessions, red areas being areas that need more time and focus whereas some amber areas may just need short amounts of revision or a minor misconception addressed. My main aim is to build confidence in pupils and I would plan sessions to be effective but fun and creative.
