Hi there! I'm James, an enthusiastic and patient tutor. I've been tutoring since beginning my Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering at the Unviersity of Bristol. I have always had a passion in putting maths and physics into practice in interesting ways, and I hope my passion can carry across to your learning!

Tutoring Experience

With over 200 hours of private tutoring experience in GCSE STEM subjects over 4 years I have assisted students of all abilities achieve their dream grades, and improve their confidence in STEM come exam season.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring approach is student-led. I tailor each session based on your specific needs, such as going over a particular topic in depth, or to supplement and revise what you have learnt in class. However, on the day I am always happy to change the plan to address on your burning questions or tricky concepts as they arise.

To make sure the material truly 'clicks', I explain topics with a variety of explanations, analogies and examples until we find the one that makes the most sense to you. I aim to make our sessions are conversational and engaging, and I always encourage (and ocassionally pester!) you to ask your burning questions and give feedback into what parts of the sessions were the most insightful to you. This helps me identify any weak points and set up the time to revisit these concepts, which can include optional homework to solidfy your learning. I want our time to be well-spent, not just by covering content, but by building the skills and confidence for you to succeed in STEM subjects independently.

Today's exams require more than just fact recall, as exam boards often rely on questions that combine content in unfamiliar and complex ways. I believe that it's very important to integrate what we learn each session into the big picture and look at how content can overlap. This gives our sessions not only the skills to tackle your exams, but also makes future revision of content simpler and (hopefully) more enjoyable.
