I've started as an academic with expertise in industrial Microbiology & Biochemistry having originally read Chemistry back in the 90s. I then moved to industrial R&D in the pharmaceutical industry . In the early 2000s, I set up as an entrepreneur in education & professional development in Reading. I was providing on line courses in Biotechnology & Quality Assurance to professionals in the Food Industry as well as 1-2-1 tuition services to GCSE & A level students, the latter from 2001-2009. This activity was based on my previous experience in developing teaching methods using computer based tools to communicate science to various audiences ( EU funded project) . I have just had a three year break from tutoring to undertake research for a biotechnology company in Cambridge , and Newcastle, and I am now starting to take up educational activities once again .
I am qualified to a university lecturer's level but during my post doctoral years I participated in an EU funded project as a consultant of the key partner ( Greenwich, London) to perform research and develop user friendly methodologies in communicating cutting edge science such as biotechnology concepts to diverse audiences varying from food technologists & process engineers to A-level students. This experience triggered off my interest in education & professional learning, and , hence, I pursued it professionally the period 2001-2009. I tutored numerous pupils at different levels from KS3 pupils to A level students many of who successfully started their university degrees in the south east between 2001-2006, and in Cambridgeshire/Essex from 2006-2009.
I have developed a user/pupil friendly, interactive approach to learning Maths and Science. It is based on communicating complex scientific terms & theories through logic, comprehension, and staged learning to motivate the student as well mentor them through their stressful preparation for the GCSE & A level exams. I have written modules & basic on line tools as teaching aids to help guide the pupil through the curriculum for most exam boards.
