Kate

English Teacher in Nuneaton

I am currently a Head of Department at a large secondary school. I have been teaching English at KS3, KS4 and KS5 for eighteen years and possess a first class honours degree in the subject.

I have experience of working with the most able learners to secure the very best exam results and also of working with students who need support with the more basic aspects of the subject. I can cover all aspects of English, from basic literacy and comprehension to complex textual analysis - all you have to do is let me know what help you need and I can provide it.

I have a genuine love of English which I am keen to pass on to others - but I retain an awareness that for some, English skills do not come naturally and people can find the subject difficult and unenjoyable - I can help students overcome these difficulties and become confident and successful. I have now worked as a tutor for ten years, and have seen many students through a variety of exams.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is to match my teaching to your child’s needs - what works for one student won’t be what works for another and everyone needs help with different aspects of English.

For GCSE students I take an exam led approach, working through exam papers and the set texts to build confidence and familiarity. For younger students I take a more skills based approach, developing skills and engagement - I can mirror their school curriculum or broaden their learning with new texts.

I tend to conduct sessions in person, as I do not really enjoy tutoring online, I think it is important to be able to give immediate feedback and see work as it is drafted, especially for more reluctant learners. I could consider teaching online if you have the facilities to print and scan resources and your child would be more comfortable with that.
