I am a highly experienced teacher/educator with a good range of experience of working with students at all levels. While I have particular experience in working with autistic students and other special educational needs, I am happy to work with all students. I have recent and substantial experience of working with hard to engage young people with Pathological Demand Avoidance/demand avoidant profiles and much of my work continues to be with these students. I currently have some limited capacity to take on students.
I have taught in a great range of settings, from mainstream secondary schools, to adult education, to Universities and English Language Teaching abroad. I have worked as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) in a large mainstream secondary school. I also have extensive experience in a Specialist Autism school, where I continue to do much of my work. Within the school my role has been to work with individuals and groups who are aiming at GCSEs in Maths, English and Physics. I have a very successful record of supporting students to achieve at this level.
I believe that a strong and professional relationship of trust is important for effective learning to take place. I am very experienced at tailoring my approach to the individual needs of the student. I have particular experience, and success with working with young people who are hard to engage. I believe that it is very important to be patient and creative and work with the student and, where appropriate, their family/carers to build trust and find what will engage them in learning.
