My name is Maxim Michau and I am currently studying at University of Birmingham where I am completing a Masters in Computer Science and Engineering. For my A-Levels I took Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science as well as the Extended Project Qualification. For my GCSE’s I took Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, Biology, French, English (Both Language and Literature) and Geography. I am thinking of going into a Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence or Computer Engineering career. As well as this I have participated in many maths challenges over the years and I took part in the Senior maths challenge on two occasions, I received a Gold Certificate in this as well as getting into the second round and achieving a Merit. At the moment I am working with younger children as I am an Instructor at the Amersham branch for the company Mathnasium. My hobbies include Swimming, Cycling, Running, Coding and Weightlifting. On weekends I am also a volunteer for the All Together Community charity and I visit older people in the community to give them gifts, hampers and invites to events in the local area.
Mathnasium Instructor (30 Months) - Over the past 2.5 years, I have worked as an instructor at Mathnasium, tutoring students aged 5 to 16 in a wide range of mathematical topics. My experience includes supporting students with primary school Maths, 11+ exam preparation (including Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning), and GCSE-level Mathematics.
Private Tutor (6 Months) - For the past 6 months, I have also been working as a private tutor, delivering tailored one-to-one sessions in both Maths and Science. I support students across a range of levels, adapting my teaching style to suit different learning preferences and ensuring steady academic progress. I focus on building strong foundational understanding, boosting confidence, and helping students develop problem-solving skills tailored to their individual learning needs.
I like to have a friendly and cooperative approach to tutoring, creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable and confident in their learning. I use a range of teaching methods tailored to each individual, including Socratic questioning to encourage deeper understanding, gamification to keep sessions engaging and fun, and positive reinforcement to build confidence and motivation. I always encourage students to ask questions so they can fully grasp each topic and extend their knowledge even further.
