Experienced Maths Tutor | 26 Years in Education | 29+ 5★ Reviews
I began my classroom teaching career in 1999 and spent 15 successful years in schools—seven of them as Head of Department—where my lessons were repeatedly graded “Outstanding” by Ofsted and internal observers.
In April 2016, I moved into full-time private tutoring, bringing nearly a decade of one-to-one experience to complement my classroom background.
Since then, I’ve received over 29 verified 5-star reviews from students and families who highlight rapid progress, renewed confidence, and excellent results.
I am based in St Albans and offer online tuition. I also offer a free initial consultation to explain how I work and help students get started with confidence.
“He has gone from the GCSE equivalent of a grade 3 (or even below) to a grade 5 in about eight months.” – Parent of GCSE student
“Peter is a reassuring tutor and has an easy rapport with his students.” – Parent of GCSE student
“He achieved a good grade following Peter’s help which shows how he improved from his past mock results.” – Parent
“Peter is extremely reliable and patient. His lessons are well planned.” – Robert, Parent
My teaching style is calm, structured, and confidence-building. I begin by identifying the student’s current level, then guide them step by step through the material using clear explanations, carefully graded questions, and plenty of practice.
I focus strongly on exam technique: past-paper mastery, mark schemes, time management, and question interpretation. I also offer mock exams, either under timed conditions or as part of a revision programme.
I use iPad + Apple Pencil in all online sessions so students can follow solutions in real time. Notes and workings are saved after lessons for easy revision.
Every session is fully prepared, personalised, and responsive to the student’s needs. I also provide optional feedback to parents so that progress is always visible and shared.

“He has an incredible way of explaining things to enable understanding … the penny dropped—years of frustration gone.” – Parent
