Personal Description:

Hey! I’m Phil, a passionate language tutor specializing in German.

As someone who learned German as a second language, I bring a unique perspective to teaching that many native speakers cannot offer. Having navigated the challenges of mastering German with an English-speaking mindset, I understand the hurdles students face and can explain concepts in a way that resonates. Past students have often highlighted this as a key advantage of learning with me.

I am a native-level German speaker and hold a certified C2 level in German from Hochschule München. I graduated with a degree in International Tourism & Languages from TU Dublin and spent over a year living and working in Munich, including time with the German Chamber of Commerce, which deepened my fluency and cultural understanding.

My teaching experience dates back to 2017 and spans all ages. I’ve worked as a Language Ambassador for TU Dublin, inspiring secondary school students to pursue language learning, and I currently offer tailored German support for learners at various levels. I can also provide references, including a letter from the Buying Director of Lidl, upon request.

I’m now pursuing a master’s in Applied Linguistics, with the ultimate goal of earning a PhD in Linguistics and Mental Health.

My grinds are conducted via Google Meet and are carefully designed to address the unique needs of your child. In the first session, I thoroughly assess their knowledge gaps and create a personalised plan focused on the areas most in need of improvement. This targeted approach ensures your child is equipped to maximise their marks and achieve success in their exams.

Each grind introduces or revisits key concepts, with my notes shared on-screen for clarity and engagement. Tailored exercises, designed specifically for your child, help them practice and consolidate new grammar points. For Junior and Leaving Certificate students, I provide structured instruction on core areas of German before applying this knowledge to real exam questions, ensuring a seamless transition from learning to testing.

Language learning involves mastering multiple skills—speaking, listening, and writing. My approach integrates these facets from the outset, leveraging your child’s strengths to build confidence and address weaker areas. This balanced methodology fosters a comprehensive understanding of the language.
