Personal Description:
I am passionate about teaching music. Since graduating from Trinity College of Music in 2010, I have established a varied teaching portfolio. I teach a number of cello students of all ages (children and adults), from beginners to degree level. I teach privately as well as in schools and at music centres.
Now based in Portobello, Edinburgh, I have over 20 years' teaching experience. I welcome pupils of all ages from Primary 1 to adult learners.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching for over 20 years. I have a wealth of experience preparing students for ABRSM examinations, as well as GCSE, A Level and Degree recitals. A number of my students have been awarded music scholarships and exhibition awards.
I have led whole class bowed-strings programmes, directed string ensembles and coached chamber groups. Although the cello is my principal instrument, I have experience teaching and playing all bowed-stringed instruments.
Tutoring Approach:
I place great importance on building good technical foundations and developing all-round musicianship skills. I tailor my teaching approach to suit my pupils and I structure lessons to help my pupils achieve their personal goals.
I enjoy exploring new ways to make string playing a fun, inclusive and interactive experience for all my pupils, this can be in a whole class setting, small group or a one-to-one lesson.
As a member of the European String Teachers Association, I find researching new materials and studying different approaches to string pedagogy a constant source of inspiration for teaching and daily practice.
