I find Bernice to be an excellent teacher and I am very pleased with my progress under Bernice's tuition. Being in my 60's I've come late to playing the oboe (although I do play another instrument). Bernice is a lovely person who is supportive and encouraging who I am happy to recommend. Bernice's also makes and sell her own reeds and I am now playing on these reeds. An advantage of also having in person lessons is that Bernice can adjust the reeds, which she has done for me, to produce a reed that is more bespoke to my requirements and has made them easier for me to play.

Leo was punctual for our lesson, and actually took longer than the booked hour for our lesson. He was attentive and patient, and I managed to play a whole range of notes on my oboe, and even had tips on reed tuning, embouchure, tongueing for staccato, observance of dynamics, rhythm and key theory lessons. For difficult high and low notes, the process of resolving issues was fingering comparisons with my thumbplate oboe with his conservatoire system oboe, and deductions about reed positioning and use, and embouchure trials. He was very encouraging, and helpful with advice about types of oboes to buy in the future. I was very happy with my first oboe lesson with Leo.
